The RDS (Royal Dublin Society) is located in Ballsbridge, in close proximity to the city centre of Dublin. Dublin’s public transportation system is renowned for its efficiency and cost-effectiveness. The city’s extensive public transport network, including walking and bus and subway services, ensures that practically every destination is accessible.

Travel unlimited over your selected time period and go anywhere you want in Dublin and the suburbs on any public transport you choose (operated by Dublin Bus, Go-Ahead Ireland, Luas, DART and Commuter Rail TFI Dublin City). You can also travel to and from the airport at the start and end of your trip without any additional charge. 

Purchase a Leap Visitor Card online (öffnet in neuem Tab), delivered to your home before you travel or at many local agents such as at Dublin Airport T1 Arrivals and T2 Spar Shop. 

Your Leap Visitor Card allows you to travel unlimited for the period of time you have selected on most transport services in Dublin:

– All Dublin Bus scheduled services (not valid on tours)

– All Luas (tram) services

– DART and Commuter Rail in the Short Hop Zone (all of Dublin city and country)

Dublin offers, as many European cities, bike sharing for its visitors and residents. You will be able to see parked and ready to ride bikes throughout Dublin.

The RDS is approximately a twelve-minute drive from Dublin City Centre located on Merrion Road (R118).

It is within easy reach of the M50 north and south bound. 

Except for members of the RDS, all car parking facilities at the RDS are operated on a fee-paying basis.

Dublin Bus offers a variety of routes throughout the city. Dublin Bus is Dublin’s local bus service. The RDS is well connected by several bus routes. The direct Dublin Bus routes from Dublin city centre to the RDS (Ballsbridge area) are 4, 7 and 7a. The 27x bus also serves the RDS.

4 – Take the route from Harristown to Monkstown Avenue via Ballsbridge (Anglesea Rd.)

7 – Take the route from Mountjoy Square towards Loughlinstown/Cherrywood via Ballsbridge (Anglesea Rd.)

7a – Take the route from Mountjoy Square via Ballsbridge (Anglesea Rd.)

27x – Take the route from UCD Belfield to Clare Hall via RDS, Ballsbridge

There are multiple routes servicing Donnybrook Road and the nearby bus garage on the N11. The RDS is a 10-minute walk away. The numbers are 46a, 145, 32x, 39a, 41x, 7b, 51x, 66x and 67x.

Bus Éireann (National Bus Service) operates bus routes throughout Ireland. These link every major town and city in the country to Dublin. The following Bus Éireann routes are available: These counties make up the Leinster region: East Carlow, Dublin, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Longford, Louth, Meath, Offaly, Westmeath, Wexford, Wicklow.
And these counties make up the Munster region: South Clare, Cork, Kerry, Limerick, Tipperary, Waterford, West Galway, Leitrim, Mayo, Roscommon, Sligo.
And these counties make up the Leinster region: North Donegal, Cavan, Monaghan.

The central Dublin bus station is Busáras. It is on Store Street in Dublin 1. It is linked to the RDS by the Dart from Connolly Station, which is a 3-minute walk from Busáras.

Irish Rail operates services from Heuston and Connolly stations to cities and towns throughout Ireland. The Luas Red Line connects the two stations directly.

Heuston Station has trains to and from Ballina, Westport, Galway, Limerick, Tralee, Cork and Waterford, passing through Portlaoise and Kildare. Connolly Station has trains to and from Belfast, Sligo and Rosslare Europort. These pass through Dundalk, Maynooth, Longford and Wexford.

The RDS is linked to these train stations by the Dart at Connolly Station. Connolly Station also has bus connections and LUAS terminals.

DART is a rail service that operates through Dublin, travelling on the east coast and servicing the coastal towns north and south of Dublin. The Dublin DART (Dublin Area Rapid Transport) service operates from the city centre to Ballsbridge. Lansdowne Station and Sandymount Station are a 5-minute walk from the RDS.

Follow the exit signs from Sandymount Station and turn right onto Sandymount Avenue. Continue until you reach the traffic lights. The Clayton Hotel Ballsbridge will be directly in front of you. For the Main Complex, Halls 1-7, turn right onto Merrion Road. The entrance is on your left. For the Simmonscourt Complex, Hall 8, go straight from the crossroads, passing the Clayton Hotel Ballsbridge on your left. The Simmonscourt Complex is 280m up the road on the left.

Luas is the Dublin light rail service. It operates two tram lines: the Red line and the Green line. The Red Line runs from east to west and the Green Line from north to south. The Red Line is 20 km long and has 32 stops. It runs from Tallaght to The Point and from Saggart to Connolly. The Green Line is 16.5 km long and has 22 stops. It runs from Brides Glen to St. Stephen’s Green through Sandyford. There is no direct route from the LUAS to the RDS. The LUAS connects to the DART at Connolly Station. Trinity College LUAS stop is a 20-minute walk to the RDS. Take the 4 or 7 bus from here.

The RDS is in Ballsbridge, a 20-minute walk from Dublin city centre.
