Introduction

Join this comprehensive ECLS workshop, designed to cover a wide range of ECMO-related competencies with a strong practical focus, led by top experts in the field. This educational activity is a joint initiative of two leading European societies: EuroELSO, a reference in ECMO, and ESICM, a reference in critical care. Together, they offer a high-standard ECMO training experience.

The activity is divided into five modules. During the first four modules, participants will be split into small subgroups rotating through four stations on the first day: cannulation, V-V high-fidelity simulation, V-A and ECPR high-fidelity simulation, and troubleshooting water drills. We will use the latest generation ECMO training tools (https://hybrids-vita.com/en.html) along with different teaching approaches.

On the second day, the full group will come together to participate in two ECMO clinical case discussions featuring live voting, competition, and a prize.

As part of the registration process, participants will be asked to provide specific information to help us tailor the content to their learning objectives. This workshop is ideal for professionals from various disciplines, including intensivists, cardiologists, anesthetists, ICU nurses, and perfusionists. Whether you are new to ECMO or more experienced, the program is designed to meet you at your level and maximize learning outcomes.

To ensure an optimal expert-to-trainee ratio, places are strictly limited. Early registration is strongly encouraged. This pre-congress activity is the perfect way to kick off an outstanding ECMO congress.

Key Objectives

V-V ECMO support management:

1. Indicate V-V ECMO in different clinical scenarios
2. Indicate the adequate V-V cannulation strategy: double lumen vs single lumen
3. Adjust blood and gas flow
4. Titrate MV parameters
5. Identify and manage recirculation
6. Identify and manage drainage insufficiency
7. Manage patients with awake ECMO strategy
8. Wean the patient

1. Indicate V-A ECMO and ECPR in different clinical scenarios
2. Indicate the adequate V-A cannulation strategy: seldinger tech vs hybrid
3. Adjust blood and gas flow
4. Titrate drugs during support
5. Indicate left ventricle unloading
6. Identify and solve differential oxygenation
7. Wean the patient

1. Drainage insufficiency
2. Air embolism
3. Pump failure
4. Membrane lung failure
5. Gas failure
